BEIKS announces English talking phrase books for Blackberry handhelds

DALLAS (February 16, 2006) - - BEIKS LLC, the world leader in reference and language titles for mobile devices, is proud to announce the release of its English talking phrase books series for the popular RIM's Blackberry platform.

The talking phrase books are compact electronic versions of the classic paperback phrase books widely used by international travelers and, commonly, by language students. With simple and intuitive interface, based on the BEIKS reference technology used in other language and medical reference solutions, optimized for easy one-hand operation, minimal memory requirements and optimal speed. Once installed the product does NOT require or utilize network connection.

BEIKS is the first company to introduce such phrase books to the Blackberry community of mobile users, as well as the first to enhance them with audio pronunciations by native language speakers.

The initial release consists of phrase books translating from English to French, Spanish, German, Italian, Arabic, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Japanese, Portuguese (EU) and Russian.
Soon, the collection of talking phrase books will be expanded with translations from the following major languages: French, Spanish, German and Italian; in other words, any native speaker of one of these countries will be able to get a completely localized application in their language.

The talking phrasebooks are designed to work on any BlackBerry handheld running BlackBerry OS version 4.0 or higher.
There is a sound file for each phrase book installation which is optional, subject to available free memory and device's compatibility. When not installed the program will function normally, but will not be able to play the selected phrase's translation.
Hearing the phrases requires an audio-enabled BlackBerry handheld, and more specifically an ADPCM playback enabled device. Currently, only a few BlackBerry models are capable of playing ADPCM sound and they are:

  • BlackBerry 7100 series
  • BlackBerry 7105 series
  • BlackBerry 7130 series
  • BlackBerry 8700 series

All phrasebooks' trial downloads offered through BEIKS' website allow instant activation of the full product functionality upon entering a device-specific unlocking code. The registration is $19.95 for a phrase book.
